Scahill on Blackwater at UM
Went to hear Jeremy Scahill speak at UM the day before Halloween. I thought this would be a suitable post for the holiday, seeing as how *actually* terrifying the subject is, but I am only getting around to it now. I have yet to read his book, Blackwater: The Rise of America’s Most Powerful Mercenary [...]

Justice and truth are key to resolution of the past
I wish I had more time these days to write about my thoughts on the discussions taking place in Ireland regarding the development of a truth commission; alas, I seem to have turned into a working machine. For now, I am re-posting a recent article by Jim Gibney from the Irish News because I like [...]

“Have gun, will fight for paycheck”
The Mercenary Revolution by Jeremy Scahill exposes the corruption behind the use of private military contractors in Iraq (the US has deployed almost 200,000 to date!). Normally I like to repost articles in their entirety, but this is a bit long. In any case, it’s a fascinating read, and you can be sure [...]

my kind of town
I just recently arrived in Chicago after spending a relatively unpleasant few hours sitting adjacent to the (obviously not often cleaned) bathroom on the Megabus from Ann Arbor. Never thought I’d be so happy to breathe city air!
After a long search for a place that offers both free wireless and an outlet to plug [...]
